How to Play 13 Card Rummy

13 Card Rummy is one of the most popular card games in India. It is played with a standard pack of cards with minimum 2 players where each player must arrange their cards in a valid set or sequence. Under the category of draw and discharge games, rummy is one of the most popular games in India.

Game Play

The game starts when the dealer distributes or deal 13 cards to each player.

Out of the remaining pack, a joker is selected and is kept face up while rest of the cards are kept face down except one card with face up for the discard pile.                    

The player sorts his/her cards and starts the game by picking a card either from the discarded pile or from the closed deck kept on the table.

After picking up a card, the player is supposed to discard one card from his side. The player can discard the card by first selecting the card and clicking on the ‘Tap to Play’ or they can also drag and drop card on ‘Tap to throw card and declare’. The discarded card is kept on the discarded pile face up and will be available for other players.

The online 13 card rummy games progress like this until any one of the players arranges his/her cards in a set or sequence and declares.

The first player to declare his/her cards wins the game.

Furthermore, the points of other players are calculated based on the relevant sets and the cards that were not used are counted as points.

Indian Rummy Points System for 13 Card Rummy

In the 13 Card Rummy, the points are added or deducted to the account of a player. The points are calculated based on the relevant sets made by the player. The player whose declaration is correct wins the game and get the penalty points of other players as well.

How is Joker Helpful for 13 Card Rummy

13 Card Rummy rules states the importance of Joker in the game of Indian Rummy. Joker is counted as a universal card, selected in the beginning of each rummy game, and is used as a substitute of any other card to complete a set or sequence.

There are two types of Joker used in Indian Rummy

Wild Joker

When the game begins, a wild joker is selected randomly which can be used as a replacement to any card.

Example: If 10 is considered as a wild joker then 10 of any suit can be considered as a wild joker.

Printed Joker (PJ)

Printed Jokers can also be used to replace any card to form set or sequence.

Example: A♣ K♣ PJ J♣, Here PJ is used to form a sequence replacing it with Q♣.
